Statement from Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr.:
I am authorized to announce that the Court has acted upon all cases submitted to the Court for
decision this Term. Disposition of items considered at conference yesterday will be reflected on an
Order List that will be released at 10:45 a.m. today. The Court will then be in recess from today
until the first Monday in October 2022, at which time the October 2021 Term of the Court will be
adjourned, and the October 2022 Term of the Court will begin, as provided by law.
On behalf of all the Justices, I would like to thank the Supreme Court employees for their
outstanding work and dedication to their important responsibilities this Term. I thank the members
of the Court’s bar as well for their professionalism and cooperation.
Before we rise for the summer, I have a number of employees to recognize. Collectively, these
individuals have rendered more than five centuries of Supreme Court service.
From the Clerk’s Office, Michael Duggan retired with more than 30 years of Supreme Court
service, and Gary Kemp retired with nearly 30 years of service. From the Marshal’s Office, Dannie
Veney retired with more than 38 years of Supreme Court service, Earnest Hicks retired with more
than 36 years of service, and Willie Clayton retired with more than 25 years of service. Chief
Deputy Marshal Richard Nelson will retire with more than 18 years of Supreme Court service and
more than 48 years of federal service. From chambers, Michele “Shelly” Blincoe retires with more
than 39 years of Supreme Court service, Janice Harley retired with more than 36 years of Supreme
Court service, and Toni Daluge retires with more than 14 years of Supreme Court service.
From the Supreme Court Police, Jeff Banaszak retired with more than 31 years of Supreme Court
service, Bernard Bishop retired with more than 27 years of service, Eliud Rodriguez will retire with
more than 26 years of service, Arthur Mackie retired with more than 25 years of service, Jeff
Cooper retired with more than 20 years of service, and Casey Hills retired with more than 20 years
of service.
We sadly note deaths among long-serving employees this year. Virginia Singletary passed after
more than 41 years of Supreme Court service and Raymond Billeaud passed after more than 21
years as a Supreme Court Police Officer. Moses Humes passed shortly after his retirement from
more than 22 years of Supreme Court service and more than 47 years of federal service.
Robert J. Hawkins retired as the Court’s Director of Information Technology after more than 27
years of Supreme Court service. Mr. Hawkins ably led a department that provides key support to
nearly every aspect of Court operations. He and his team were creative, agile, and essential in
allowing us to discharge the public’s work through the coronavirus pandemic.
Linda S. Maslow, who has served since 2012 as the 11th Librarian of the Court, will retire this
summer after nearly 34 years of Supreme Court service. Ms. Maslow has guided our Library to
embrace digital tools and resources while safeguarding its unique collection and extending a
tradition of outstanding responsiveness to the Justices, employees, and bar members.
The Court thanks our retiring employees for dedicated public service to Court and Country. We
wish each of you well in your retirement.
