The Supreme Court of the United States today adopted a revised version of the Rules of the Court. The revised version will take effect on May 1, 2003. The Court received public comment on proposed amendments released on November 18, 2002. Those proposals, as adopted, include changes to Rule 29 designed to aid in the timely filing of documents by allowing parties to use commercial carriers in addition to the United States Postal Service. In addition, the Court approved minor changes to the Rules. The changes to Rules 13.5, 25.2, 25.3, 30.2, 32, 39.2 and 44.6 are part of a continuing effort by the Court to make the Rules clear and unambiguous.

Copies of the revised Rules are available from the Clerk's Office, the Court's website, various legal publishers, and other organizations.

The attached document describes which Rules were revised. The Clerk's Comments are not part of the Rules, but are furnished to assist readers in understanding the changes.
