The Supreme Court of the United States will honor the memory of the late Justice Sandra Day O’Connor on Thursday, March 19, with a meeting of the Supreme Court’s Bar, followed by a special sitting of the Court.

The Bar meeting – at 1:45 p.m. in the Upper Great Hall – will feature remarks by the Honorable D. John Sauer, Solicitor General of the United States; the Honorable Ruth McGregor, Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court (Ret.); the Honorable Sri Srinivasan, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit; the Honorable Richard G. Taranto, Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit; Professor Lisa Kern Griffin, Candace M. Carroll & Leonard B. Simon Distinguished Professor of Law at Duke University School of Law; and the Honorable Scott Bales, Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court (Ret.). Chief Justice McGregor will serve as chair of the meeting. At the meeting’s conclusion, Bar members are expected to adopt a commemorative resolution.

Chief Justice McGregor, Chief Judge Srinivasan, Judge Taranto, Professor Griffin, and Chief Justice Bales all clerked for Justice O’Connor. The Bar meeting will be streamed live on the Court’s website, www.supremecourt.gov.

A Special Session of the Court will be held in the Courtroom at 3 p.m. Solicitor General Sauer and the Honorable Pamela Bondi, Attorney General of the United States, will address the Court. Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., will respond on behalf of the Court. Attendance at the memorial sitting and meeting of the Bar is by invitation.
