Linda Maslow, long-time Assistant Librarian for Research Services at the Supreme Court of the United States, has been named the Court’s new Librarian. Maslow will be the 11th Librarian of the Court.  She will replace Judith Gaskell, who retired in September, 2011 after serving eight years as Librarian.  Maslow, who has been Acting Librarian since Gaskell’s retirement, will immediately assume her new duties managing the Supreme Court Library, its 27 employees and a collection of more than 500,000 volumes.

Maslow has served as Assistant Librarian for Research Services at the Court for 23 years, responsible for the planning and implementing of all research services to the Court.  She administered a department of 7 staff, including 6 professional research librarians.  She was a member of the Library’s senior management team, handling matters including space planning, collection development, electronic resource management, budget planning and technological innovations.  Before her career at the Court, Maslow worked at the University of Michigan Law Library, starting in 1984 as a reference librarian and then serving for four years as chief reference librarian.  She worked as an associate attorney at the law firm of Webster & Sheffield in New York, NY from 1980-1982.

Maslow earned her B.A. (summa cum laude) at Queens College of the City University of New York in 1977, her J.D. at Harvard Law School in 1980, and her A.M.L.S. from the University of Michigan, School of Library Science in 1984.
