An Intimate Swearing-in for William Howard Taft

On July 11, 1921, William Howard Taft was sworn in as the 10th Chief Justice of the United States, fulfilling a longtime and well-known dream. Family, friends, and government officials gathered in the office of Attorney General Harry Daugherty to watch the former president take his oaths of office. After the brief swearing-in ceremony, the new Chief Justice visited the White House, the Senate, and the Supreme Court, and then went house-hunting.
